Huey AKA Dasher
Huey AKA Dasher
The Metamorphosis of Huey I could write a book about Huey, the shy littermate of Dewey, whom we had adopted from KRA in February of 2009. Dewey and Hueyıs litter had been dropped off at the shelter in December of 2007. They were 3 months old at the time. Huey was the last one to be adopted. At the shelter, it was hard to know how shy he was, and it was clear that his shyness wasnıt working in his favor in finding a forever home. I went out on a limb (pulling my husband along with me) in early June. I wanted Huey to have a permanent home with us and, hopefully, heıd bond with his brother. It was a tough first week. He hid under the bed for the entire week, and Dewey didnıt remember him at first. Eventually, our quiet household and the opportunities to see bears, moose and smaller critters in the back yard, while safely indoors, delighted Huey. Even our needing to care of a friendıs yellow lab for a week didnıt bother him. I panicked at first, not knowing how things would work out, but it worked out fine. Huey didnıt mind a bit. The Huey from the shelter was soon transformed into a well-adjusted, very funny feline. He bonded well with his brother, and Fletcher and Shirley, too. It was in September that I had a sense he wasnıt feeling 100%. I hoped it was just the changing seasons. Yeah, right! It wasnıt the case, though. On a Saturday evening in early October, he was admitted to Tufts. All clinical signs pointed to FIP. We had no options with the confirmation of that diagnosis the next morning. He was euthanized, and we were left to digest all that had happened so quickly. We spent our last moments with him, talking about all the things he got to see, how he had accepted all of his family, and how we all accepted him. We were happy that his short life outside the shelter was the best it could be. We were saddened to think of the soon-to-begin process in which the others would be looking for him around the corner for days, weeks on end. We just wish he had more time with us. Heıs at peace now, with our other cats that have passed on, and we miss him dearly.

Juno
Juno
Juno was rescued by a caring volunteer as a kitten with his little sister from a cardboard box on the side of the highway. Unfortunately he passed away at a very young age, shortly after finally finding a forever home with his beloved sister Rose. In his short time with his new family he made sure that Rose felt safe and that she knew where to go in her new home. He will be remembered for his gentle, loving personality. He lived up to being a big brother to Rose in every way. He will surely be missed.

Bentley
Bentley
Bentley came to the shelter from a dedicated volunteer that could no longer care for him. He was fortunate enough to find a wonderful loving forever home outside of the shelter for 9 months before his passing. Here is what they had to say about him: "He was the world's best cat to us. Even though he was only with us for a short time, he quickly found his way into our hearts. He used his double paws to slap the dog when she got near him. We really miss him. It was nice when he curled up and sat on our laps. We hope he is happy in heaven."

Gigi
Gigi
One volunteer remembers her this way: I spoiled her when I was there by letting her run around in the hallways. She was a lap cat which I loved! She was one of the friendliest cats and I liked to play with her with string and run around the hallways while she chased me! Another remembered her this way: Her full name was Isabella-GiGi, which she seemed to like and respond favorably too. She could be a bit cantankerous, in a room with lots of "teenage" cats, but who wouldn't be. She had an absolutely gorgeous face with very expresive eyes. She would nip if you decided to move on to another resdient of the room, or if another cat tried to weasel in on her attention. Dispite her size she was quite frisky and like to play with string toys. She would have been in heaven to have a quiet home with someone who would give her the undivided attention and love she craved. I hope in heaven that's what she is getting! She will be missed by all.

Logan
Logan
Logan was a resident for about two years when he was given up by his family. Aloof at first, Logan warmed to the volunteers in time. He was a very laid back cat and loved to drink water as it was being poured from a pitcher or dripping from the faucet. Sadly Logan passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 2008 of an unknown cause. Logan was loved and left his paw print on those who knew him.

Jet
Jet
Jet came to the shelter at the tender age of 10 weeks. She was the tiniest little thing with a big attitude. If you tried to approach her she would put her little ears back flat looking like a little Jet. She would hiss and spit and if you got too close you could expect a whack! We watched most of her siblings get progressively more friendly but Jet wouldn't give in. We knew she was destined to be a shelter cat. She never got very big and as time went on we suspected she was sickly, we never knew it was terminal. At around 1 1/2 she was diagnosed with "dry" FIP. It is a slow killer that saps the body of muscle and fat. Despite our effort to put weight on her she continued to fail and on July 7th we had to put her down. In her sicker times she began to trust us more and we were able to sit and hold her and give her the love she deserved. We miss her terribly and she will always have a special place in our hearts.
